Oxygen sensor errors in helium-air mixtures

چکیده
Oxygen sensors play a vital role in ensuring the safety of employees and users at National High Magnetic Field Laboratory. While most oxygen have accurate linear responses nitrogen/argon environments, studies highlighted phenomenon helium-air mixtures with certain types sensors. A controlled experiment was performed to observe behavior two sensors: orifice membrane. The sensor showed large deviation up 13% measured reading above actual content mixture test, while membrane remained within 3% value throughout its range.

Helium oxygen mixtures in the intensive care unit
Heliox, a mixture of helium and oxygen, has a density that is less than that of air. Breathing heliox leads to a reduction in resistance to flow within the airways, and consequently to a decrease in the work of breathing (WOB), particularly in disorders that are characterized by increased airways resistance. Beneficial effects have been observed in patients with asthma, chronic obstructive pulm...
متن کاملHelium-oxygen mixtures in airway obstruction due to thyroid carcinoma.
The management of a patient with severe airway obstruction secondary to a thyroid mass is reported. When breathing room air the patient appeared in severe respiratory distress but when inspiring 22 per cent oxygen in helium she reported almost instantaneous relief and there was a marked decrease in respiratory rate, and increase in tidal volume and arterial oxygen tension. This improvement was ...
متن کاملDevelopment of aerosol drug delivery with helium oxygen gas mixtures.
Aerosol drug delivery using helium-oxygen gas mixtures (heliox) is considered in terms of flow physics, atomization, and aerosol mechanics. Theoretical considerations are then related to past studies of the physiological effects of the inhalation of heliox and its potential use as a drug delivery medium. Past clinical trials of heliox investigating this use are reviewed and technical recommenda...

متن کاملBench experiments comparing simulated inspiratory effort when breathing helium-oxygen mixtures to that during positive pressure support with air
BACKGROUND Inhalation of helium-oxygen (He/O2) mixtures has been explored as a means to lower the work of breathing of patients with obstructive lung disease. Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) with positive pressure support is also used for this purpose. The bench experiments presented herein were conducted in order to compare simulated patient inspiratory effort breathing He/O2 with that breathin...
